Safety Assessment - Safety Management System Assessment Tool

Safety Management System Assessment Tool

The level of safety in your organisation is dependent on many aspects. The chemicals that you use on a daily basis are possibly the main hazard at your plant, but how are you managing these ?

For instance:

  • Are you aware of all the Safety, Health and Environmental procedures that are in place at your plant ?
  • Do you know all about the relevant legislation, permits and other information ?
  • How are the chemical hazards controlled ?
  • Is appropriate training provided ? And what about the communication within the organisation ?
  • Are all the operations and maintenance procedure manuals up to date ?
  • And how often are the inspections and audits carried out ?
  • Do you have an accident/incident reporting system ?
  • And what about emergency drills ?
  • Are all technical & engineering changes systematically assessed before implementation ?

The main objective of this SMS Assessment Tool is to identify deficiencies in the safety management system of your organisation.

The evaluation will be based on your responses to the questions in the sections you choose, and a summary of your responses will be provided at the end of each section. According to the scores, you will be provided with feedback and practical recommendations on how you could improve the safety management at your organisation.

Note: there are no direct references to legal obligations within the assessments, and you should obviously be aware of and consider all your legal obligations regarding all the issues being raised.

It might be the case that some sections may not seem applicable to your organisation, however, it would be best to check those sections regardless... you might find some useful tips to improve the overall level of safety in your organisation !
