Training - What is Seveso II

Seveso II

Q: What is SEVESO II?

A: The Directive 96/82/CE (SEVESO) is aimed at the prevention of major accidents which involve dangerous substances, and the limitation of their consequences for man and the environment, with a view to ensuring high levels of protection throughout the Community in a consistent and effective manner.

The Directive establishes two different levels of affectation for the establishments, a sort of risk level, which can be named as ?high and low? levels. The criteria used are based on the amount of dangerous substances present in the establishment

The present brief methodology allows the safety management responsible of an establishment to find out whether the establishment is affected by the SEVESO II regulation and in which level.

See especially: establishment, installation, major accident, dangerous substances.
