Partition coefficient

Measure of the relative affinities of the sorbed and fluid phases for solute.

Partition coefficient (P) is defined as the ratio of the equilibrium concentrations (ci) of a dissolved substance in a two-phase system of two largely immiscible solvents.

In the case n-octanol and water:

P=Cn-octanol/Cwater
