Glossary
Smoke production
Amount of smoke produced in a fire or fire test. The quantity of the smoke produced is very important so the materials are classified according to their reaction to fire. In this classification the smoke produced is ranged from s1 (smoke produced = 105 m2.s-2) to s3 (smoke produced > 250 m2.s-2). Different approaches are followed depending on the fire: in small rooms doors and windows are closed to reduce the air, in big installations the smoked is directed to the outside to reduce temperature and increase visibility.
