Sensitivity of reactions

A runaway reaction may arise from accidental (small) changes on the following parameters:

  • Nature and amount of reactants
  • Presence of catalytic impurities
  • Temperature
  • Pressure

Also the following deviations must be considered: 

  • Failure of the heat exchange system
  • Changes in the temperature control system
  • Poor mixing
  • Dosing sequence and rate
