Mass transfer

Phrase commonly used in engineering for physical processes which involve molecular and convective transport of atoms and molecules within physical systems. It is information for using Modelling, Simulation and Optimisation.

Modest differences in mass transfer can influence product distribution and selectivity in systems having complex kinetics. In such cases, when designing a reacting particle system, it is often advantageous to design the reactor for complete homogeneity to limit the effects of poor mixing and maldistribution of particles on the process results. Complete homogeneity is necessary to ensure uniform concentration of the solid material in the liquid phase. This is particularly important for systems where fast side reactions can occur.
